In 2020, a severely burned German Shepherd puppy was discovered near Lake Lotawana and brought into the care of Pawportunities.
His recovery required extensive veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and an extraordinary commitment from the people determined to give him the future he deserved.

In 2022, the City of Blue Springs and the Blue Springs Police Department selected Pawportunities to provide animal-control services for the community.
For more than two years, Pawportunities personnel responded to animal-control calls throughout Blue Springs, cared for impounded animals, assisted residents, provided animal-welfare education and worked within the City's animal ordinances.
The partnership expanded Pawportunities' role from a traditional rescue organization into direct municipal animal-welfare service.
