In August 2026, PEOPLE featured the story of a senior woman searching for a loving lap dog who found her match in Mocha, a blind Chihuahua in the care of Pawportunities.

Some rescue cases stay with an organization forever. Incredible Journey is one of those stories.
In 2020, a severely burned German Shepherd puppy was discovered near Lake Lotawana and brought into the care of Pawportunities.
His recovery required extensive veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and an extraordinary commitment from the people determined to give him the future he deserved.
His story received Kansas City media attention and became an early example of the lengths Pawportunities would go to save an animal whose life was worth fighting for.

In 2022, the City of Blue Springs and the Blue Springs Police Department selected Pawportunities to provide animal-control services for the community.
For more than two years, Pawportunities personnel responded to animal-control calls throughout Blue Springs, cared for impounded animals, assisted residents, provided animal-welfare education and worked within the City's animal ordinances.
The partnership expanded Pawportunities' role from a traditional rescue organization into direct municipal animal-welfare service.
