Dog Surrender Assistance

Need Help Rehoming Your Dog?

We understand that making the decision to surrender a dog can be difficult. Pawportunities reviews each request carefully and will help when we have an appropriate foster home and the resources needed to responsibly accept the dog into our care.

Begin a Surrender Request

Before You Submit a Request

Pawportunities is a foster-based dog rescue. We must secure an approved foster home before any dog can enter our care, so submitting this form does not guarantee that we will be able to accept your dog.

Please do not bring a dog to our shelter without prior approval. Dogs are accepted by appointment only after Pawportunities has confirmed an available foster placement and completed the intake arrangements.
1

Dogs Only

Pawportunities accepts surrender requests for dogs. We are not currently able to accept cats or other types of animals.

2

Foster Placement Is Required

A suitable foster home must be identified before intake. Depending on the dog’s size, age, behavior, and medical needs, this may take several weeks or even months.

3

Requests Are Reviewed in Order

Surrender requests are generally handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Timing can vary because every dog requires a foster placement that matches its individual needs.

4

Complete Information Matters

Please provide honest and detailed medical and behavioral information. Complete answers and clear, recent photos help us evaluate possible placement.

5

Surrender Fee

An approved intake generally requires a surrender fee of $50–$100. This helps offset a portion of the veterinary care, supplies, and other costs associated with bringing a dog into our program.

6

Keep Your Dog Safely With You

Your dog must remain safely in your care until Pawportunities has approved the intake and confirmed a surrender appointment.

How the Surrender Process Works

Completing the form is the first step. It is not confirmation that your dog has been accepted.

Submit the Form

Tell us about your dog and provide clear, recent photographs.

Request Is Reviewed

Our team evaluates the dog’s needs and the information provided.

We Seek a Foster

We must find an approved foster home capable of meeting the dog’s individual needs.

Intake Is Confirmed

If placement becomes available, we will contact you to discuss and schedule the dog’s intake.

Intake timelines vary considerably. A small dog may receive foster interest relatively quickly, while a large-breed dog or a dog with significant behavioral or medical needs may wait weeks or months for an appropriate placement. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that placement will become available.

Did You Find a Stray Dog?

This surrender form is intended for dogs owned by the person submitting the request. If you have found a stray dog, please contact the animal-control agency responsible for the city or area where the dog was found.

Local animal control can document where the dog was found, complete any legally required stray-hold period, scan for a microchip, and give the dog’s owner the opportunity to locate their missing pet.

Please do not use this form to bypass local stray-animal procedures.

Could Support Help Your Dog Stay Home?

Sometimes a family wants to keep its dog but is facing a temporary financial or veterinary challenge. Pawportunities may have programs or services that can help.

  • Pet food assistance through our Pet Food Pantry
  • Low-cost vaccination and preventative services
  • Community spay and neuter services
  • Affordable veterinary care when available

Assistance is based on program eligibility, scheduling, and available resources. Pawportunities does not currently offer an owner-assisted rehoming or courtesy-listing program.
