Why are we participating?
As a Kansas City Fashion Week sponsor, Pawportunities has the opportunity to introduce pet adoption to a new audience. Many guests may never have considered that highly desirable puppies - including breeds often sought from breeders - can come through rescue. Our dogs open the conversation, and our team shares the mission.

What to expect
- Tuesday: Puppy Yoga is a structured class where puppies join participants in a supervised setting.
- Wednesday, Friday and Saturday: Pawportunities representatives carry the dogs, answer questions and talk with guests about adoption.
- Thursday: Selected dogs are carried by runway models during the fashion show, giving Pawportunities and its mission valuable media exposure.
- Fosters provide transportation unless another arrangement has been made. Our team coordinates each dog's role and handling.
What this is not
- This is not an open petting event or public puppy play area.
- Dogs will not be placed in a pen where attendees can freely reach in, pick them up or play with them.
- Dogs will not simply be handed to members of the general public.
- This is not an on-the-spot adoption event. Interest and questions are directed through Pawportunities' normal adoption process.
Safety comes first
Every appearance is planned and controlled for the protection and safety of the animals. Dogs remain with approved handlers, runway models or Pawportunities representatives. Interactions are supervised, and any dog showing stress can be removed from participation. Pawportunities has participated in Fashion Week for multiple years and understands how to manage the experience safely.
The puppies attract attention. The mission changes minds.
By showing guests that rescue includes the same kinds of puppies many people seek from breeders, we create a natural opportunity to explain that adoption is a real and responsible option. Fashion Week gives us the perfect setting to say: buy designer duds, not designer dogs.
