Why Domino needs help: I have another female dog who she bit recently. My little sister moved in with me and we have too many dogs under the roof. I wanted to try and train her, but I don’t have the funds. I had been seperatinf the groups of dogs and trying that way. However with the recent injury, she needs a home where she can thrive. She deserves a home, she isn’t human aggressive.

Why Buck needs help: Buck doesn’t get along with my senior dog. This was not a problem for the first couple of months. Buck struggled with settling in his crate despite trialing anxiety medication. We live in an apartment and have received notes on our door from neighbors. We unfortunately can’t keep Buck due to his reactivity but if he was in a single animal household I believe he would truly thrive! He is not aggressive towards humans. Buck knows the following commands : Sit, Stay, Shake, Down, and Come.

Why Scooby needs help: He has entirely too much energy and we just can't keep up with it. He gets bursts of energy. I throw his ball outside and that keeps him down for a little while, but then he's right back up hyper again. It has really taken a toll on us mentally. It's not helping that he's in his kennel while we are at work. He needs someone that is home all the time and can keep him active. We have spent a small fortune on a professional trainer to come to our house to help us with him. He's a sweet dog and beautiful. We just can't keep up with his energy. We have bought kongs and filled them with peanut butter to keep his brain working, but he chews that up in a matter of minutes and I have to throw it way. We have bought him puzzle games to keep his mind busy as well. We have done everything. We have been defeated. We take hime to Pete and Mac's to socialize him with other dogs and he loves it there. He loves to play with other dogs.

Why Marlee needs help: We are older. She is too much to handle and knocks my husband down. She is extremely hyper and I cannot control her unless she is medicated. She was my son’s dog and he moved three years ago. She is very intimidating and I do not know if she would bite strangers. We keep her away from them. I can control her around the grandkids only with a shock collar. She does love car rides. Hates the vet. She is housebroken knows commands. Kennel trained. Hated loud noises like thunder and fire works and for some reason is scared of fires. She shows aggressiveness towards strangers as far as growing and barking. She has been around other dogs and cats. She was kicked out of doggie daycare for behavior as far as jumping all dates, refusing to come in after recess.

Meet Cooper, a 3-year-old male Mixed - Possible Lab/Terrier/Boxer who is still living with him current owner while waiting for a safe next step. He is not yet a Pawportunities dog, but the right foster or potential adopter could help open that door.
Why Cooper needs help: I accepted Cooper from a military family. The husband and wife got divorced and the wife moved back to England. The husband surrendered Cooper to a shelter in Indiana. The wife contacted her friend here (another military spouse) who agreed to take Cooper in and find him a home. I was told that he was a well behaved dog who was lovable, with no negative behaviors. That was appealing as I have a 4 year old and no time to train a dog (that’s why I didn’t get a puppy). My daughter and I both met Cooper and he appeared as advertised, albeit quite skittish. He did ok at our house the first day or two, but then I started noticing behaviors such as chewing my daughters toys even though he had his own and was repeatedly told no; getting into the trash which I originally considered my fault because I assumed I left the lid off…no, he was knocking the lid off and getting into the trash; jumping on to the counters to get food (he ate a whole box of my daughters donuts); refusing to come when called, and repeatedly getting in my daughters face. I have tried a few training methods including positive reinforcement and kenneling when we’re not home. I thought the kenneling would keep him off the counters and out of the trash…but he woke me up in the middle of the night last night knocking the lid off the trash can and also has done in when I’m in the other room. He’s not aggressive, he doesn’t bark excessively, he’s house trained, current on flea/tick/heartworm medication and I have a few more months worth of medication, and current on all vaccines…and I’m sure he’d be perfect for someone who has the time to train him. He’s just not a good fit for me and my daughter. He would come with a kennel, dog food, a dog food container, leash, collar, toys, NexGuard, brushes, toothbrush, toothpaste, treats, and records.

I really want them to go to the same home to stay together as they are like two peas in a pod they are never separated. They do much better together. They are friendly with other animals, including chickens, dogs, cats.
